When DIY isn't the answer

With the right instructions I could probably replace a tap but it would definitely be quicker and drier if I called in a professional plumber to do the job. So when it comes to communications and marketing why do people without the skills, knowledge or expertise in that field want to D.I.Y?
Talking to a cookery school owner last week she was dismissive about having expert help with marketing as she did it all herself for her business. And it seemed to be working - she had a waiting list for her cookery classes.
But that's the dilemma for many start-up and small businesses. The owners are often the face of their business and they worry that no-one else will be able to communicate their passion for their product. But the cookery school owner admitted she'd made mistakes with her marketing - costly advertising that didn't generate a single booking - and the scatter-gun approach she was taking was both time consuming and energy sapping.
However more importantly while she was spending time and energy on face-to-face marketing she wasn't delivering cookery classes, failing to satisfy the customer demand for her product and not generating an income.
Expert marketing support can help businesses to engage potential customers in a cost effective way that allows the businessman and woman to concentrate their skills and talents on producing and delivering the products they are so passionate about.
